In summer 2006 I was on an aircraft flying from Moscow to Gatwick. There were three little Russian girls sitting on the seats behind me. They were talking all the way from Russia to England non-stop, there was no way for me to escape from listening to them. They were chatting loud as young curious women would normally do in a long travel.
From their conversation I realised they all were strangers. First of all they detected about their age - all three of them were turned out to be 12 years old. They found they knew all about English culture and history and their English was perfect; yet they did not expect to find any of this to be interesting. What really excited them was the thought of the shops. I wondered to hear each of them had two travel bags full of clothes (for me my rucksack was more than enough).
All of their mothers were out of date and their ancient grannies were just nuisances stuck in the past. But these girls knew everything that modern life demands civilized human beings to know. They talked and talked: about fashions and the best boutiques, about up to the minute brands and classic brands.
Of course there was nothing I could have contributed to their conversation. I have nothing to say when
it comes to such a serious thing as clothes. It was another world which was completely new and unknown, full of beauty and mystery and so exotic... I had no words to describe my feelings - even to myself. It was so different from the world I know. I was overwhelmed and my mind was a jumble of impressions.
When I got home I started writing my *Fairy Stories For Silly Adults*
